Every month, Playworks Wisconsin recognizes a Junior Coach of the Month for exemplary demonstration of the Playworks core values. In January, we were thrilled to award Junior Coach of the Month to Junior Coach Maya from Ninety-Fifth Street School.
In her coach’s words, Junior Coach Maya is one of the strongest student leaders at Ninety-Fifth Street School. Maya is highly valued by all of the staff and teachers, as she is always asking for leadership opportunities and ways to help others. She is a proud and confident leader who shares her excitement with everyone she sees.
Junior Coach Maya is always up for a challenge and eager to learn more about how to be a better Junior Coach to her peers. She loves leading games and laughing with other students, and helps foster a healthy recess community by welcoming students to come play games with her strong communication skills.
One of her qualities we’ve been most impressed by is that she maintains her confidence on the playground and allows it to fuel her ability to invite friends into the games she facilitates. She understands that students may not want to play or may be hesitant to join a game they do not know, but she still maintains a welcoming and inclusive game atmosphere. Maya shows excitement for every game she is asked to facilitate and is eager to help fill needs on the playground and in the school.
Our Junior Coaches are recess rockstars and we love hearing about the positive energy they bring to the playground. Thanks, Junior Coach Maya. You rock!
