Mrs. Boyle, Educator of the Month

  1. Updates

Congratulations to Mrs. Boyle, this month’s Playworks Educator of the Month. Mrs. Boyle teaches fourth and fifth grade at Albert Story School where she encourages kids to get in the game!

Mrs. Boyle plays jump rope every day at recess. She taught all the jumpers catchy songs to sing while they jump, and she turns rope tirelessly. She reports to playground duty with a smile on her face and convinces the kids who aren't playing anything to join in the fun. During Class Game Time she cheers the loudest of anyone in her class, reminds kids how to get all three incentive stars (safety, respectful, responsible), and she acts like a second coach while encouraging her students to play along.

Mrs. Boyle refuses to take away recess if there are problems in class or in the lunch room because she knows that games help redirect negative behaviors, and she believes that all kids deserve the opportunity to play everyday. Even before Playworks began this year, Mrs. Boyle introduced roshambo (rock, paper, scissors) and taught the kids roshambo rockstar because it was a way to cheer for everyone in the class and help establish healthy community in her classroom.
