September’s Corps Member of the Month is Coach Mercs at James E Moss Elementary! Coach Mercs had pretty big shoes to fill following Coach Povey. Before she moved, Coach Povey was an all-star at James E Moss Elementary. However, Coach Mercs has risen to the occasion by putting her own spin on programming at Moss while maintaining positive relationships with kids and teachers alike. New to Playworks this year, Coach Mercs came to us as a veteran of the Sugar House Boys and Girls Club. Her passion for play is evident in her high-energy program and dedication to safe and healthy play. Here are a couple fun facts about her:

What is your favorite sport?

Softball

What is your favorite snack/treat?

Edamame/Skittles

Tell us two fun facts about yourself.

I was born in the Dominican Republic and I want to be a backup dancer for Beyonce.

What elementary school did you go to?

Midvalley (Yep, that’s right, a Playworks school.)

Why did you choose Playworks?

I have chosen to work with Playworks because, when I was growing up in New Jersey, I didn’t have the opportunity to experience recess. After all of those years, I have seen the effects of it. I know it is so important for children to have a place to grow and apply the lessons they learn.
