February’s Corps Member of the Month: Coach Young

  1. Updates

For the month of February, Coach Young has accepted the title of Corps Member of the Month along with the golden trophy award.  While Coach Young excels in all things Playworks, her Junior Coach program is exceptionally praiseworthy.  She has encouraged and influenced her Junior Coaches profoundly and they have grown into extraordinary leaders under her tutelage. Coach Young’s prior background in recreational therapy meant that she was well equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to become a Playworks coach.

Why do you enjoy your job?

I enjoy being a benefit to my community and I feel like working with Playworks as an AmeriCorps member allows me to do that. I can help youth to better themselves which creates a better and stronger community. I enjoy seeing people learn and grow and take the things they are being taught and put them into action. I enjoy seeing success.

What is you favorite game or sport?

Soccer

What is your favorite candy/edible treat?

Anything with caramel!

What other volunteer/service oriented experiences have you had?

I served an LDS mission for 18 months in Russia, I was in the outreach committee for the BYU Therapeutic Recreation Club, and I have volunteered many hours at retirement centers.

Tell us two fun facts about yourself!

I have run 3 marathons, one of which was on the Great Wall of China. I have also kissed a sting ray, petted a shark, and ridden an elephant.
