This month we are thrilled to announce Coach Stacie as our Corps Member of the month! We are recognizing her for her incredible ability to build relationships through her playful professional attitude. Rock on, Coach Stacie! Read more about her experiences with Playworks below:
What is your background and experience?
I graduated from Weber State University with a Bachelor's of Integrated Studies in health promotion, recreation, and nutrition. I love being active and have always said I want a job where I get paid to play. I have absolutely loved Playworks and the core values that we teach.
What drew you to being a coach with Playworks?
I changed my major in college about ten times. I tried everything from elementary education to public relations. At one point I was considering becoming a recreation therapist because I believe that being outside and recreating have so many health benifits. When I heard about Playworks and how they believe in the power of play to bring out the best in every kid, I knew that it was what I wanted to do.
We are recognizing for a solid all around program. Can you share a best practice for others on how you have built such an amazing school atmosphere?
Antelope was already running an amazing program when I got here, so I can't take all the credit. I have really tried to get to know all the students and let them know that I care about them. I feel like the students respond better and are more willing to play if they trust me and know that I care about them.
What's your favorite part about being an Americorps member?
I love getting things done! I love all the service projects we have been able to be involved with and I love that we get to plan our own service project for our school and community.
