LA Galaxy Foundation and LA Galaxy Player Hugo Arellano Providing Healthy Play by Building Healthy Community

Playworks Southern California has partnered with the LA Galaxy Foundation for our 2017-2018 school year. To kick-off our partnership, the foundation demonstrated their support to Cesar Chavez Elementary School in Norwalk by providing a soccer clinic for 4th and 5th-grade students. The soccer clinic allowed the students to directly interact with and receive skilled training from current LA Galaxy coaches. Hugo Arellano, a player of LA Galaxy, returned to his hometown, to support the soccer clinic and launch of our new partnership with LA Galaxy Foundation.

Not only did the LA Galaxy Foundation aid our students in developing and acquiring new skills, they also donated jerseys that will be used by our co-ed soccer and girls soccer leagues this school year. The 12 students of Cesar Chavez Elementary co-ed soccer team were announced and were thrilled to receive their brand new jerseys. We continue building and maintaining healthy community with our partner, parents, and Ms. Reyna, Principal at Cesar Chavez Elementary, to empower our students.

Ms. Reyna shared, “The event created a unique opportunity. Students from Chavez have limited resources and sometimes limited experiences. They were able to connect with the player and see how they can also reach their goals with hard work and dedication. Parents are excited to learn about how the support from Playworks and their partnership with LA Galaxy Foundation will enrich our learning community.”

Additionally, the LA Galaxy Foundation hosted our 23 schools in launching Playworks Southern California’s Co-Ed Soccer League on October 7, 2017 at the StubHub Center. We are excited to continue providing unforgettable experiences to the schools and children we serve.
