The 2015-16 SoCal AmeriCorps Graduation was held at the StubHub Center Stadium Club in Carson, CA on June 10, 2016. This off-site venue provided an excellent opportunity for the AmeriCorps members to reflect on their accomplishments in an environment reflective of their active lifestyles.
The day began with Americorps members arriving at the StubHub Center and being escorted by SoCal Region Site Coordinators. Upon arriving, the Leadership Team distributed sealed envelopes containing “letters to self” written by the members during pre-service.
Afterwards, members relaxed on the patio. Members utilized this time to take pictures and converse with each other inside and around cabanas.
Michelle Serrano, Associate Director, officially opened the AC Graduation Program with a warm welcome, thanking members for their service and announcing the promotion of 5 AmeriCorps members to the staff position of Site Coordinator. The AmeriCorps members promoted to Site Coordinator include Jessica Cornejo, Jason Farol, Albert Guerrero, Ashley Cole and Demar George. They will officially start their new positions on July 1, 2016, and will join colleagues from the 23 Playworks regions at Camp 2016.
After the formal welcome and announcements, members exchanged personalized, lamented photo cards to share with each other and write memorable and/or inspirational quotes. While members signed the laminated cards, groups of 5-7 were escorted to the buffet and listened to music while dining.
