Pep Rally with Ben Vereen and William Morris Endeavor

  1. Updates

Playworks Southern California was one of many partners represented at Compton Unified’s Stephen C. Foster Elementary School Back To School Pep Rally.  Funk and soul music filled the air as a sea of more than 800 students, parents, facult, and staff gathered under the beautiful California sun.

Dr. Sanderlin, Foster’s principal, greeted the crowd with her typical high energy and the stage was filled with special guests including Darlene Kiyan, executive director of Playworks Southern California, and a representative from our sponsor at Foster, William Morris Endeavor. Special guest speaker/singer Ben Vereen was inducted as a Playworks Honorary Coach and the remainder of the yard boasted a plethora of tables filled with vendors, a gumbo station and a mobile video game trailer.

This is Playworks’ inaugural year at Foster Elementary and the reception has been wonderful.

Playworks is now the 71st partner at the house Dr. Sanderlin is rebuilding, along with Target, WME, The Food Network, Lawry’s Steakhouse, Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles, the Boston Celtics, and a host of others.

From day one, the Foster Family has opened their arms to Coach Nick Pratt and the rest of the Playworks staff, rolling out the red carpet and being fully on board with the effort to increase healthy, inclusive play on their campus.  Playworks is very excited to have added this school our list of partner schools, and we know that there’s nothing short of amazingness in the months to come!
