This year, Playworks North Carolina is proud to have 10 members serving with us at our partner school communities. They are committed to contributing more than 9,000 hours to service during the 2017–2018 school year.

Service is the active decision for individuals to invest in and support their community.

Meet our AmeriCorps coaches! Coach Matt, Coach Beth, Coach Michael, and Coach Aminee share with us the importance of service and what they have learned thus far.

Coach Matt

Service with Playworks is so meaningful to me because I think it’s very important to give back to the community—especially helping out the youth. AmeriCorps is such a great organization to help get involved in giving back and I’m so thankful for the opportunity. I’d have to say my favorite memory so far was having my kids run the 40-yard dash during the week of the NFL Scouting Combine and seeing how proud each and every one of them were when I told them their numbers after they crossed the finish line.

Coach Beth

Service is the active decision for individuals to invest and support their community. It is a privilege that I can serve my school every day. Serving as an AmeriCorps member has given me a unique window into the lives of the students at my school. I get to see my students at the best part of the day when they get to be most fully themselves. I appreciate that I have the opportunity and responsibility to be a positive presence in a school through games and play. This role has taught me so many tangible skills that I will continue to use in my future career. My favorite experience from this year is working with my Junior Coaches; I love hearing about their experiences and watching them grow as leaders.

Coach Michael

When I think of service, I think of giving back in any way that you can. As individuals, we have different ways of doing things and this can be shown through service. I am serving as an AmeriCorps member because I enjoy being able to be a part of an organization that participates in providing many different opportunities to serve. My favorite service memory would have to be participating at an event at the Poe Center. During the event, I was able to interact with many age groups and personalities while enjoying myself in a healthy environment.

Coach Aminee

Service to me means that I am donating my time and efforts to do something great for the benefit of someone else in hopes of improving their experiences. I chose to serve as an AmeriCorps member because I enjoy helping people and being a part of a team whose goal is to help people. My favorite memory of service was attending the AmeriCorps Conference and getting the chance to meet other members and learn about all of the different affiliates under AmeriCorps.
