October 2012 Coach of the Month

  1. Updates

Cameron Culbreth Sims is Playworks Durham Coach of the Month for October. Coach Cameron is the program coordinator at Hope Valley Elementary School and is in her second year as a Playworks program coordinator. She runs an excellent program with motivated Junior Coaches and popular and engaging “games of the week,” all while getting teachers involved through 4-square and soccer.

In addition to her high quality program, Coach Cameron continues to advocate for Playworks. She made a successful appeal to the Hope Valley PTA, which resulted in Playworks becoming one of the organization’s main fundraising projects for the year. When Durham Public Schools Cable Chanel 4 came to tape her program, she spoke eloquently and enthusiastically. Finally, she supported the anti-bullying movement by having students and staff at Hope Valley make a banner standing up against bullying for Unity Day (10/10/2012).

This month we give a huge “Fireworks Clap” to our Playworks Durham Coach of the Month Cameron Culbreth Sims!

Get to Know Coach Cameron:

Favorite Game: Team to 2-square (it’s like volleyball but easier)!

Favorite Cheer: The Chicken Cheer

Favorite thing about Durham: I like the mix of urban, suburban, and rural communities that coexist here. I can experience all the benefits of downtown, go enjoy a meal at a neighborhood restaurant, and then take a drive through gorgeous farmlands — all without leaving Durham!

If you could have any super power what would it be and why? The ability to freeze time around me, that way I could take as long as I needed doing things and still not feel like I “wasted” time.
