Playworks Durham holds 1st Annual Basketball Extravaganza

  1. Updates

All nine Playworks schools were represented in our first annual Basketball Extravaganza, with over 60 players in attendance! This event allowed all teams to come together to celebrate and prepare for the kickoff of Playworks Durham’s 2011 girls' basketball season.

We were very fortunate to hold the event was held at The Emily K Center, a nonprofit community organization founded by Duke University’s Coach K. WE thank all of the staff at The Emily K Center for generously donating this space, as well as volunteers from Bull City Forward who lent their time and support.

The highlight of the day was a surprise visit by players from the Duke Women’s basketball team, who gave out lot of basketball pointers, helped with fundamental skills and hung out with the kids to answer questions and sign autographs. Before they left, they also donated each player with a Duke basketball and tickets to a women’s basketball game!

It was truly an amazing event for everyone in attendance and we are so grateful for all the support from our parents, schools, volunteers and community partners.
