Being Fit is Fashionable!

  1. Updates

Playworks Chicago recently teamed up with Building a Healthier Chicago for the "Fitness Is Always In Fashion!" event at the State Street Macy's. Attendees enjoyed healthy food from three of Chicago's culinary institutes and broke a sweat participating in several 15-minute demonstrations led by local nonprofits whose focus is getting kids in the community engaged in sports and other physical activities.

We did indoor stretching (using socks!) with Stretch-n-Grow, learned Michelle Obama & Beyonce's "Let's Move" dance from the Chicago Park District, practiced our soccer footwork and ball control with Urban Initiatives and our hockey shootout skills with the Chicago Blackhawks, "ran" indoors with Chicago Run, and last but not least, Chicago Program Director Colleen Harvey and Program Associate Kim Lombardi energized the crowd with some Playworks favorites!

We started out with up down stop go, played shipwreck and paparazzi tag, and ended with the "Go Bananas!" cheer. During the event, we had people of all ages honing their four square skills in front of our information table under the highly energetic direction of Chicago Program Coordinator Allie Temkin. We met some great people whose goal, just like ours, is to make Chicago a healthier and more playful city!
