Coach Chelsea is ‘All In’

  1. Updates

Playworks Coach Chelsea was recently commended by Principal Annie Tabshy for her work at Grout Elementary School: “Coach Chelsea is a vital part of improving the school culture at Grout. I have seen a significant reduction in student issues, especially at lunch recess because of Coach Chelsea and the Playworks program. And what is so wonderful is that the positive recess experience carries into our classrooms improving the focus and ability to learn of our students.”

Grout Elementary was the recipient this year of a $20,000 All Hands Raised Equity grant and will be using the money to continue their partnership with Playworks. A total of $898,000 was awarded to 39 Portland Public Schools and four alternative programs for the 2015-2016 school year. Grant amounts were determined by an equity-focused, data-driven formula that takes into account the demographics and financial situation of all PPS schools. Playworks has participated in the All Hands Raised Partnership, Communities Supporting Youth initiative since 2011. This collaborative of diverse organizations and six school districts aim to align and increase school and community supports – for children, youth and their families – that contribute to academic and life success with a focus on eliminating disparities. Thank you Coach Chelsea, Principal Tabshy, and All Hands Raised. We are so proud to partner with so many awesome parents, teachers, students, schools, organizations, and businesses who put kids first and believe in the power of play to bring out the best in every kid. THANK YOU!
