Get in the Game! Portland Launching ‘Playworks Parent’ Engagement Initiative

  1. Updates

We see it all the time, the first time a teacher or recess supervisor joins in a game of four square or wall ball, kid’s are amazed, a little shocked and a lot thrilled when adults actively play with them on the playground. Typically kids think of the adults standing on the sidelines, directing or blowing a whistle, but not ever really playing. When kids experience this, their faces light up and often immediately engage in more positive behavior.

November 17 is ‘National Parent Involvement Day’ and we all know how important parent engagement is in helping kids succeed at school but often between responsibilities at work and home; sometimes it can be difficult to find that precious time in your day. In response, Playworks Portland is launching a platform to support parents by offering ways to easily communicate best practices, tips and ideas, offering a variety of flexible volunteer opportunities and fun trainings demonstrating our philosophy of meaningful play and how to incorporate it at home and in your neighborhood.
