One of the original eight Playworks Portland schools is facing district-wide budget challenges and their PTA wants to make sure Playworks comes back for a third year at Jim Bridger School. The inspiring efforts of Playworks Coach Jay Flewelling has made a positive impact within the school community and raised the demand for our youth development and recess support program. The combined efforts of Principal Christina Daily, Bridger PTA President Deborah Dimoff and the school community are collaborating on a number of events to raise funds for various projects including Playworks.
How can you help? Check out what the kids have to say in this awesome video their school produced about saving Playworks. Also take a look at the PTA's Save Playworks at Bridger website for more info about how you can spread the word, events to attend, and ways to show your support! Bridger school is organizing a number events through the end of the year including deals through Amazon.com, participating in the 82nd Ave Roses Parade, a school play, spirit day at school, a photography show, Jim Bridger Mt. Man Fun Run, PTA movie night, Run for the Arts, gallery walk, spring concert and a year end bike ride.
In PTA President Deborah Dimoff's words, "The Playworks Coach at Bridger is our children's constant…Teaching games is the foundation in which our Playworks Coach opens a dialogue to talk to students in all grades about inclusion, respect, leadership, sportsmanship, attitude, teamwork, and academic excellence. Without our [Playworks] Coach, Bridger will lose a valued resource that helps our children grow and strengthens the school community."
