Celebrating AmeriCorps Coach Kim

  1. Updates

This week at Playworks, we're celebrating AmeriCorps Week by appreciating our amazing AmeriCorps coaches. Here's a story showcasing one of our first-year AmeriCorps coaches, Coach Kim.

Coach Kim is an incredibly dedicated AmeriCorps member and has been instrumental in establishing a strong school partnership with her school. This accomplishment has everything to do with the greatest resource available at every school – its students.

The Junior Coach program took off like wildfire this year. The original team of Junior Coaches became such a strong example of leaders among their peers that there was great interest from other students in joining the program. True to the Playworks value of healthy community, Coach Kim brought her Junior Coaches into the application process for the second generation of Junior Coaches. During a training, they reviewed the new applications as a group to gather input into who would be joining their group for the rest of the year.

With teachers and faculty, Coach Kim brought Junior Coaches to the teacher training, and even had Junior Coaches lead the icebreaker game and school clap. The staff really got a kick out of it, and support for the Junior Coach program has never been greater!
