East Bay Junior Coach Leadership Conference Brings Out the Best

  1. Updates

Playworks East Bay celebrated and acknowledged our junior coaches at the 2nd Annual Junior Coach Leadership Conference (JCLC). Nearly 200 junior coaches and Playworks staff spent a fun filled and informative Saturday on the UC Berkeley campus with the Cal Football team.

The conference kicked off with a variety of workshops ranging in topics that included anti-bullying, team building, nutrition/healthy eating and Pilates.

Following the morning activities, the kids were introduced to a number of varsity players from the Cal Football team! The players shared inspirational stories, answered questions and then escorted the coaches to the Cross Roads Cafeteria – a true highlight of the day.

In genuine Playworks fashion, lunch was followed by RECESS!  Wiffle Ball, 4-square, Dodge Ball, Hula Hoop Tag, and Jump Rope — you name it, they played it. It’s quite possible the college kids were having more fun than the kids. Learn how to play the games here.

Junior coaches were introduced to former NFL San Francisco 49er’s Super Bowl champion, and president of Waypoint Homes, Doug Brien. Doug spoke to the kids about the importance of school, the value of a good education and the idea that hard work can take you anywhere in this world.

Another round of workshops followed by a group cheer, and the 2nd Annual JCLC came to a triumphant close. It was a truly inspirational day for all involved, and we can’t wait for the next one.

Playworks thanks UC Berkeley for hosting this event and expresses our appreciation to the Cal Football team for spending the day with our junior coaches. We would also like to acknowledge our sponsors, PG&E and Waypoint Homes, for making this day possible.

High 5s and cheers to all!
