Kids Get Their Kick on at Alice Chalmers Park

  1. Updates

What a day for kickball! With sunny skies, temperatures reaching almost 80 degrees, a grassy field filled with Playworks coaches and students there were smiles all around. On a warm September Saturday, Playworks held a kickball jamboree for the students of our 18 San Francisco elementary schools. Families, students, and a plethora of Playworks staff joined together for an afternoon of healthy play and community building.

There was plenty of hustle and fun as four teams played and practiced their new skills. Many supportive family members were there to enjoy watching their children play. Parents Diana and Robert Mueller exclaimed, “Playworks is a fantastic program. It’s great that so many schools can come together to play sports. It gets them moving!”

Parents were not the only ones excited. Their children were the focus of the day. Evan Tam from Sherman Elementary simply stated, “I like to kick the ball and run.” A very important aspect of playing kickball in true Playworks style. Cassandra Castro from Cesar Chavez exclaimed, “It’s fun; I get to play with other kids.”

The day was an overwhelming success. All teams were “dynamite,” as evidence from our closing cheer. Thank you students and parents for a wonderful Saturday.
