AmeriCorps 9/11 National Day of Service

  1. Updates

On Saturday, September 11th, Playworks Silicon Valley paired up with InnVision Villa in downtown San Jose, for a National Day of Service. InnVision Villa is a transitional housing center for women and children. InnVision empowers homeless and at-risk families & individuals to gain stability by providing housing, food, and programs that promote self-sufficiency. In the South Bay this includes emergency shelters, transitional/supportive housing, and permanent multi-housing units & apartments. This comprehensive network of services meets both the emergency and longer-term need of the homeless and low-income men, women, families, veterans, and the mentally ill.

Playworks Silicon Valley AmeriCorps members served in a variety of ways: One group of members took children from the shelter to a nearby park to play games, while the rest of the group stayed back to help paint, beautify, and organize their homework and recreation room at the center. It was a great service day for all.

Special thanks go out to InnVision for allowing Playworks Silicon Valley to partner with them. Big high fives go out to all of our wonderful staff and AmeriCorp members who made this day such a success!
