Playworks founder named to ’40 FOR 40′ list from Women’s Sports Foundation

  1. Updates

Jill Vialet joins Mia Hamm, Venus Williams, Robin Roberts, Tina Fey and Ellen DeGeneres as one of the WSF women who have impacted society.

Title IX went into effect 40 years ago, and in those 40 years, we have seen great strides from women both in and beyond sports. The Women’s Sports Foundation (WSF), founded by Billie Jean King in 1974, has been empowering and honoree female athletes for 38 of those years. And now WSF, espnW, and Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT) is honoring 40 women who have made a significant impact on society after playing sports in high school or college during the forty years of the Title IX era.

According to WSF, Title IX has resulted in growth of girls participating in high school sports from 1 in 27 in 1972 to about 2 in 5 today. Title IX has not only made its impact felt in terms of athletic participation, but in educational opportunities for girls and women.

Playworks Founder and CEO Jill Vialet has been recognized among WSF 40 FOR 40 list. She joins such notable women such as track great Jackie Joyner-Kersee, legendary women’s college basketball coach Pat Summitt, US Senator Kristen Gillibrand, former Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice and others.

What an honor! A huge thank you to WSF, espnW and WICT from Jill Vialet and Playworks!

The honorees will be recognized as part of a 40 FOR 40 event on June 21 at the JW Marriott in Washington, DC.

What women do you think have made a significant impact on society?
