Oakland, CA—October 29, 2013— Nonprofit veteran executives David Carroll and Marie Longo have joined the staff of Playworks as chief financial and chief development officers for the national nonprofit.
CFO David Carroll joins Playworks after financial leadership roles at the California Association of Food Banks and Community Foundation Sonoma County. He spent nearly a decade working in public policy, including serving as research director at the California Budget Project and finance policy director at the California Association of Public Hospitals.
“Playworks has grown exponentially the past few years to serve hundreds of thousands of kids all around the country,” says Playworks President and Chief Operating Officer Elizabeth Cushing.
“Along with his financial expertise, David brings extensive operational experience in working with complex operations across geographically diverse sites. This is an invaluable asset to Playworks as we continue to scale both our training and direct service models throughout the US.”
Marie Longo brings more than 25 years of experience generating revenue and building impactful donor and client relationships for nonprofit and for-profit entities. Prior to her position at Playworks, she served as the director of development for Gay & Lesbian Advocates and Defenders (GLAD), the legal advocacy organization in Boston that pioneered marriage equality for the LGBT community. Longo has also held development positions with the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Human Rights Campaign in Washington, DC. Longo is based out of the Playworks Massachusetts offices in Boston.
“Our goal is to create a place for every kid on the playground to belong, grow and thrive,” notes Cushing. “Marie brings a strong and proven strategic background in donor cultivation and stewardship. Her smart, collaborative approach will be the cornerstone in helping ensure that Playworks can reach our vision.”
