Playworks of Greater Washington DC and Politicians Unite to Stand Up for Inclusion
Nonprofit Honors Local Community Advocates to Show Real Players Don’t Bully

Playworks and Google celebrated the culmination of Playworks’ anti-bullying month Real Players Don’t Bully Campaign over breakfast with an in-depth panel. Seventy five corporate and civic leaders, representatives from DC Public Schools, and representatives from Congress united to discuss bullying as a social justice issue and play recess games together with Playworks of Greater Washington DC. The event featured an exclusive panel including Jill Vialet, Founder and CEO of the Playworks; Rep. Michael Doyle, D-PA-14, Ranking Member, Energy & Commerce Committee; Simon Morrison, of Google Be Internet Awesome; Dr. Amanda Alexander, Chancellor of DC Public Schools; and Kate Bedingfield, VP of Communications for Monumental Sports & Entertainment. We had great discussions about civility and anti-bullying and how we serve as role models to teach our kids to be inclusive and kind.
During the event, Playworks of Greater Washington DC held an award ceremony, issuing the following honors to prominent members of the community who have championed play, wellness and youth development in local elementary schools:
- Rep. Joyce Beatty, D-OH-3 – Congressional Changemaker Award
- Rep. Steve Stivers, R-OH-15 – Congressional Changemaker Award
- Tierra Ruffin-Pratt, Washington Mystics – Community Champion Award
- Michelle Johnson, Principal, Mundo Verde Bilingual Public Charter School – Playmaker of the Year
- White & Case LLP, international law firm – Corporate Partner Award
- Playworks Junior Coach Stars for Respect, Inclusion, Healthy Community and Healthy Play
The event concluded Playworks of Greater Washington DC’s Real Players Don’t Bully Campaign which aims to prevent bullying and increase inclusion at elementary schools by empowering kids to be more empathetic and kind to one another. The campaign was supported by Google’s Be Internet Awesome, which promotes being kind online.
