Coach Jamal is the Playworks Coach at the James W. Hennigan K-8 School in Jamaica Plain. This is Jamal’s second year at the Hennigan. Coach Jamal brings a positive attitude to his work every day and has made a big impact on the students he serves.

Coach Jamal has been going above and beyond at his school in big ways. In addition to running recess, Class Game Time, and Junior Coach training at his school, Coach Jamal joined the Hennigan Wellness Team. The Wellness Team meets bi-weekly and focuses on the mental, physical and emotional health of the student body.

Last month, Coach Jamal recruited several of his Junior Coaches to attend our annual Junior Coach Leadership Convention. Jamal took time out of his February break to attend the entire JCLC and support his young leaders, as well as other students from across greater Boston. Throughout the event, Coach Jamal was positive and enthusiastic. Although most of the students were meeting each other for the first time, Coach Jamal made everyone feel welcome and comfortable.

According to Playworks Program Manager, Stephon Lily, “Coach Jamal is always in good spirits and ready to transfer his great attitude to someone who might need a boost!”

We are lucky to have a dedicated coach like Jamal on our Playworks team in Boston. We know she will continue to bring out the best in his students for the rest of the school year!
