Coach Chris has been a Playworks Coach since 2015 when he began as an AmeriCorps member at the Guilmette Elementary School in Lawrence. Since then, Chris was a coach at the Chittick Elementary School for three years before stepping into his new role as a ‘Flex Coach.’

As a Flex Coach, Chris spends each week at a different school helping to support both new and returning coaches run programming across Boston and Lawrence. Coach Chris helps fellow coaches build relationships with school staff and supports all components of the Playworks program.

Not only has Coach Chris made a big impact working with students, but he has also stepped up to run professional development for coaches in Boston and Lawrence. Coach Chris has delivered training for Playworks staff on how to run our Girls’ Basketball League which kicks off in November. Coach Chris’s years of experience and knowledge of our programs have been essential in helping our new staff members understand their roles.

Being a Flex Coach presents a unique set of challenges, working with a new school and a new group of students every week, but Coach Chris has been able to adapt and act as a valuable peer mentor wherever he goes. We are lucky to have such a thoughtful and experienced coach like Chris sharing his expertise across our partner schools. We know Coach Chris will continue to bring out the best in his students and colleagues for the rest of the school year!
