Playworks Massachusetts Teacher of the Month, Ms. Boyar

  1. Updates

Ms. Boyar is an incredible Special Project Coordinator at UP Academy Dorchester with Playworks Coach Caitlin. She always carries a positive and chipper presence within the school. Ms. Boyar is always willing to check in with Coach Caitlin after recess about how to problem solve certain behaviors. During recess she loves to help students get in the game, often times starting at one game and then moving on to other games throughout recess. If any of the games begin to get too out of hand, she insists on a restart and helps the students go over the rules. She will even remind the kids to make sure their actions and behaviors are respectable.

Ms. Boyar realizes the importance of safe play and helps adapt games to accommodate safety. She believes that all students can fix poor choices and when they are having a hard time students should be able to rejoin the team. Over the past few months, Coach Caitlin has noticed that several students who have previously had a hard time at recess were able to build an incredible relationship with Ms. Boyar. These students are not only improving during recess but all day they love to show her they are succeeding. She is an extremely busy staff member, but can always be found smiling. With her playful personality and dedication to safe play, Ms. Boyar is a crucial advocate for Playworks.
