Coach DC Makes Excellent Happen

  1. Updates

Coach DC is a second-year program coordinator who brings a special energy to each school day, fully demonstrating the Playworks core values. In her second year at Playworks Massachusetts, Coach DC has returned to the King K-8 School in Dorchester. Over her two years at this school, Coach DC has built incredible relationships with students, staff and faculty. She has worked extremely hard to transform the school environment to a place where all students feel safe, included and ready to learn. She is committed to the school community, often times volunteering for extracurricular activities. For instance, she volunteered to bring the King Running Club Group to the Boston Marathon Relays the Saturday before the Marathon. And she helped to run practices throughout the winter to prepare for the event and went to the relays to help coach and cheer her students on.

During the month of May, Coach DC was awarded the UMass Boston Civic Engagement Preceptor Award for hosting UMass Boston volunteers at her school throughout the entire spring semester. She was recognized as a leader in the field of exercise and health science, as someone who has consistently participated in precepted experiences and possesses practical expertise, and has served as a mentor to college students. The UMass Boston volunteers attended recess throughout the spring to play alongside Coach DC and her students. She worked with these volunteers to write a lesson plan for a Junior Coach training focusing on the importance of living a healthy lifestyle.

Coach DC continues to enhance her students’ lives by being an integral part of the school community. Coach DC can always be found in the school hallways smiling, handing out high fives and asking students how they are doing. Additionally, she volunteered at the annual Playworks 5K Run for Recess and helped capture the ending time of all runners. She gave each participant a high five as they crossed the finish line, ensuring that all 650 runners were celebrated. With her incredible passion for serving the community and dedication to the Playworks core values, we are confident Coach DC will continue to make excellent happen throughout Massachusetts.
