Coach Brittany is a returning program coordinator who embodies the mission and values of Playworks. Entering her second year with Playworks Massachusetts Coach Brittany graciously volunteered to help launch Playworks programming in Lawrence, nearly 30 miles away from Boston and the Playworks Massachusetts main office. During her time at the South Lawrence East Elementary School, Coach Brittany has made an incredible impact on school climate and student leadership. Additionally, Coach Brittany has taken on a leadership role in Lawrence by serving as a mentor to two first year coaches launching programming in Lawrence schools. Her dedication and hard work toward expanding Playworks throughout Massachusetts, has shown her desire for building a world with healthy play for every kid.
Last month, Coach Brittany spearheaded the initiative to transform the before school time into recess time for all students. Prior to Coach Brittany, the before-school time was a period that students would sit in line and wait to be allowed into their classrooms. Coach Brittany `noticed that this time was filled with arguments and disruptive behavior that was spilling into the classroom. Deciding to take the lead, Coach Brittany worked with her school administration to transform before school time into a safe, healthy and inclusive play time for all students. The principal from SLE Elementary is incredibly happy with Brittany’s idea, saying students now have another opportunity to release energy and increase physical activity. The students attending before school recess are beginning their school day on a positive note, going to their classrooms prepared and ready to learn.
Coach Brittany enjoys excellent communication with members of the school and guardians of Playworks students. Each day, Coach Brittany tries her best to check in with the majority of her students. If she notices that something seems to be troubling a student, she makes sure to bring it to the attention the teachers and guardians. Coach Brittany is committed to the Playworks Massachusetts movement. With her enthusiasm and great passion, we are confident Coach Brittany will continue to make excellent happen throughout Massachusetts.
