Join the Playworks Movathon

  1. Updates

15 schools and hundreds of youth around the state of Michigan will have an opportunity to join Playworks and the Detroit Lions in an effort to raise awareness about the importance of daily physical activity. The Playworks Movathon begins on October 8th and goes through November 14th.

Participants will use a Movband to track their moves, which get converted to miles. The goal is for youth to move over 100 miles in a three week period. At the same time, youth will secure donations from family and friends in support of their participation.  All donations will benefit Playworks, an organization dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of children through physical activity and safe meaningful play through a school based program and training for adults that work with students.  Playworks is currently providing full time physical activity programs in 14 low income schools, helping to reduce bullying, increasing physical activity and helping students feel more engaged in schools.

All schools that apply to host a Movathon will get entered into a chance to win a free one hour Playworks Play60 session at their school.  The 15 schools selected to participate will have a chance to earn a Playworks professional development training valued at $3500.  Each student who raises money will have a chance to keep their movband and win awesome Detroit Lions prizes, such as silly bands, dog tags, a lunch bag, tickets to a home game, and a personalized Detroit Lions jersey.  The student raising the most money will get an ultimate Detroit Lions fan package to attend the December 22, 2013 home game, with on field access, participation in the upper fan tunnel to high five players, and VIP tickets.  Detroit Lions Youth football participants are also invited to register for the fun.
