For ten years, OneAmerica has demonstrated the importance of investing in each of their communities through their annual Week of Caring. Playworks was (once again) thrilled to be a part of it this year. Both Playworks Indiana and Wisconsin created opportunities for OneAmerica employees to play last week during their Week of Caring.
In Milwaukee, OneAmerica volunteers headed to St. Marcus Harambee Campus to launch some new game zones for elementary aged students through a Corporate Play Day. OneAmerica volunteers led and explained the rules of Sharks and Minnows, Switch, and Challengers and Champions. Even though it was a hot day outside, both the students and volunteers had a great time getting active and playful in the gym!
In Indianapolis, we started the week with a Corporate Recess. This employee activation is an ideal and fun way to build community with your colleagues. A Playworks Indiana trainer led a group of over 25 OneAmerica employees in activities and playground classics like Partner to Partner, Ball Toss Race, Tic Tac Toe Relay, and Foursquare. In addition to being engaging, these games help teams build confidence, teamwork, collaboration, inclusion, conflict resolution skills, and experience a little healthy competition. Participants shared with us that it was a great way to spend the afternoon with their teammates.
Playworks Indiana ended the week with OneAmerica with a Playground Beautification at George W. Julian School 57. Over the past two years, the PTSA at George Julian has raised funds to redesign and reconstruct their playground in honor of a student killed in a crosswalk car crash while walking home from school in September 2021. Hannah’s Memorial Playground was a community effort started by students who wanted to honor her memory. Playworks and OneAmerica helped to put the finishing touches on this special project. Volunteers repainted the basketball court, created a movement path, and painted new foursquare and hopscotch games. It was a wonderful day and we are so happy to be a part of Hannah’s Memorial Playground.
