Playworks Indiana’s January Teacher of the Month

  1. Updates

Playworks Indiana recognizes Staycie Lievens, kindergarten teacher and recess coach at New Augusta South, as its January Teacher of the Month.

Why was this teacher nominated?

Site Coordinator Abby nominated Miss Lievens and her kindergarten team from New Augusta South for their amazing job at making sure that all students are active at recess. You can catch Miss Lievens and her team on the playground playing tag, switch, and jumping rope with their students every day!

Recess is a key element to learning. We learn best through play and I love to see the scholars (students) develop friendships and coping skills in the recess setting.”

How does this teacher embody Playworks’ core values?

Miss Lievens recognizes that recess is an important part of the school day for kids because it serves as a reset button for their brains and actually improves overall learning. On the playground, Miss Lievens and her team help bring students together by jumping into the games and encouraging teamwork.

“Playworks has taken the guesswork out of recess. They make recess structured, yet incredibly fun for everyone. I’m learning new games and love to see my scholars’ abilities and friendships improve through recess.”

What is Miss Lievens’s favorite recess game?

Cookie monster tag!
