Playworks Indiana recognizes Chantal Rawlins, Spanish teacher and K-3 recess aid at CFI 70, as its November Teacher of the Month.
Why was this teacher nominated?
Coach Care nominated Ms. Rawlins for her positive, engaging presence while working with students. She is present at kindergarten through third grade recess periods. At each recess period, she joins in and plays with students or is on the playground equipment encouraging them to play. She is always engaging with students and uses positive language. When she sees Coach Care facilitating a game, Ms. Rawlins will help run the opening and always sings the cheers at the close of the game. Ms. Rawlins is constantly promoting safe, healthy, and inclusive play!
How does this teacher embody Playworks’ core values?
Ms. Rawlins does a great job of making sure girls are included in playground games. When male students are playing together, Ms. Rawlins will jump in and invite female students to join in the game. Ms. Rawlins will start playing basketball or soccer and encourage girls to get active instead of sitting on the sidelines. She will jump in with a positive attitude and model how to correctly play the game. Ms. Rawlins uses positive language with all the students and makes sure they are having a safe, healthy, and inclusive recess experience. She helps Playworks be alive and well at her recess periods by promoting our core values!
What is Ms. Rawlin’s favorite recess game?

“The kids love it and are getting so much more involved at recess with the different games being offered,” said Ms. Rawlins. “With Playworks at our school, you can’t help but be energetic and positive at recess!”
