Playworks Indiana had a productive spring break, seeking opportunities to serve our greater Indianapolis community. Our Program Team and AmeriCorps Members teamed up to volunteer at a variety of nonprofits.
On Monday, we went to Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana. Gleaners’ mission is to lead the fight against hunger in central and southeast Indiana by collecting, storing, and distributing food to those in need. Gleaners distributes food to hungry Hoosiers through a network of over 250 partner agencies including emergency food pantries, and soup kitchens and shelters. As volunteers, we had the opportunity to help move and organize skids of donations, as well as separate and pack food for distribution.
On Wednesday, we went to the Lilly Boys & Girls Club of Indianapolis. Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis believes every young person deserves to live a life filled with hope and opportunity. Because they care about our young people, they provide a safe, educational and positive atmosphere where they can prosper and reach their full potential. Due to many of the students currently being out of school for spring break, the club had an influx of kids and provided many fun options for their day. As volunteers, we helped support their staff in a variety of their program areas including the art room, gymnasium, park, and teen center.
On Thursday, we went to Noble, whose mission is to expand opportunities and enhance the quality of life for people with disabilities and their families through individualized services. While we were there, we had the opportunity to get know their clients and assist in conducting surveys regarding the quality of service they were receiving. We loved hanging out with their wonderful clients!
