Meet Coach Amy

  1. Updates

The 2015-2016 school year is Coach Amy’s first year with Playworks Indiana. She started this school year as the Flex Coordinator, providing services to all Indiana Coach schools, and is now the primary Coach at Clarence Farrington Elementary School #61 in the Indianapolis Public School District.  As an AmeriCorps member, Coach Amy is always ready to help and eager to serve her school community.  Truly embracing Playworks’ core values: respect, inclusion, healthy play, and healthy community; Coach Amy is an invaluable asset to our team!

What is your favorite recess game?

My favorite recess game is kickball! I also really love to hula hoop.

What is your favorite Playworks component (recess, CGT, JCLP, leagues)?

My favorite Playworks component is Class Game Time (CGT), because I really enjoy getting to know the classes on a smaller, more personal level.  It is also a great opportunity to introduce more complex games that they can later take out to recess, which is great!

What is your favorite sport to watch?  What is your favorite sport to play?

I love watching soccer and college football. My favorite sports to participate in are kayaking and downhill skiing.

What do you like to do to relax/have fun?

I love movies!  In my spare time, I love watching old noir films or making my own short films.

If you could have any superpower what would it be and why?

When I was younger, I loved the book (and movie) Matilda by Roald Dahl.  I was also a huge fan of Jean Grey of the X-Men comics.  This resulted in a strong desire/hope that one day I would develop telekinesis and telepathy.

What is the most rewarding part of being a Playworks Coach?

The most rewarding part of being a Playworks Coach is definitely the daily positive interactions with the students.  I can see the difference I make at the school, but I can also see the positive impact the kids have on me.  We are all facing challenging things, and are growing in the process.
