Walking for Wellness

  1. Updates

Despite the light rain, walkers from all over Chicago's Austin neighborhood gathered at LaFollette Park for some recess games and warm-ups for the Walk Across Austin. Austin is Building A Healthier Chicago's focus neighborhood this year. The goal of the 5K was to spark interest in community wellness and walking clubs for people living in the area. Walking is an easy way to get fit and stay active, and you can do it anytime, anywhere, at pretty much any age! Playworks Chicago was on hand to warm up the crowd. Kids enjoyed Coach-led games of four square, Switch, and jump roping before the walk. The participants got their hearts pumping with some large group games before heading over to Columbus Park where they enjoyed sandwiches and refreshments during a health expo hosted by the Chicago Park District, Walgreens, XSport Fitness, and of course, Playworks! It was great to see the community band together to promote healthy lifestyles, and we were proud to be a part of the event!
