“The Time is Always Right To Do Something Right” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr Day marks the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy. It is the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service, and at Playworks we are encouraged to participate every year. It is more than a national holiday for Playworkers; it’s a call to action to get out and serve our communities in ways beyond our everyday mission.

The Playworks Colorado team joined Denver Parks and Recreation to transform Hallack Park to make an impact and honor the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Playworks volunteers spread 12 yards of mulch to support and beautify the area around every tree in the park. Volunteers put on their smocks and lathered up their paintbrushes to update benches and picnic tables. Volunteers also collected 165 gallons of pine needles and raked the playground for everyone to enjoy a safe space. Playworkers, both from the field and office staff were thrilled to have the opportunity to work alongside Denver Parks and Recreation to renew Hallack Park.

Thank you to Denver Parks and Recreation for hosting us! We look forward to many more service opportunities out in our communities!
