On April 29, Playworks teamed up with the Home Depot Foundation to make a difference in the lives of the students and staff of Eliseo C. Felix School in Goodyear, Arizona. Their mission was to beautify Eliseo C. Felix and turn their playground into a safe, inviting, and fun space for all to enjoy.
Over twenty volunteers showed up bright and early on Saturday with equipment, supplies, and paint, generously donated by the Home Depot Foundation, in tow. The team worked together to paint colorful basketball courts, foursquare stations, a gorgeous new hopscotch area in the Home Depot colors, and even more!
The volunteers were in high spirits throughout the day, knowing the impact that this beautification would have on the students who were used to an old and faded space. These updates are not only pleasing to the eye, but they will help students discern which games are supposed to be played where. Thanks to the Home Depot Foundation, students at Eliseo C. Felix School can take pride in their space and ownership of their recess time.
The event was even covered by a local news outlet who interviewed members of the Playworks and Home Depot team for the nine o’clock news. Each interviewee was beaming as they took part in the story and looked forward to the reaction of the children the following Monday.
The new space was later revealed by Principal Martinez to the students who responded with much joy and excitement. They could not wait to try out their new space.
