Working in a returning school has its perks and challenges. On the plus side, the students and staff are already familiar with the Playworks program, having worked with a previous coach. However, really making the program your own can prove to be a challenge. But, not for Coach Jeanette!
At any given time during recess, you can be sure to catch Coach Jeanette working tirelessly to create a high-functioning recess all her own. Whether it’s making proactive changes to the structure of recess, implementing five-line soccer with a very resistant group of 4th-grade boys and girls, or playing an intense game of basketball with the 8th-grade boys, Coach Jeanette is always doing a phenomenal job with a smile.
Coach Jeanette goes above and beyond to include meaningful social-emotional learning (SEL) concepts during every class game time. Recently, Jeanette’s SEL focus was resiliency. This concept was introduced by relating the words to Taylor Swift’s hit song “Shake It Off.” Jeanette had nearly her entire class dancing and singing this song while simultaneously learning the meaning of resiliency.
Coach Jeanette has also created stellar leagues. Not only did she recruit 19 girls on her soccer team, but she had staff and parents attend each game while loudly cheering both teams on! Coach Jeanette truly wanted to show her appreciation for her team, so in addition to the awards ceremony, she held an end-of-the-year pizza party for her soccer team.
HUGE whoosh clap to Coach Jeanette for continuing to go above and beyond! We can’t wait to see what else she has up her sleeve for the second half of the school year.
