Coach Jen is a second year AmeriCorps member at Granada Primary School in Phoenix, Arizona. This year, Coach Jen took on the challenge of launching a brand new school with great success.
There is never a dull moment during Coach Jen’s class game times. From start to finish, students are engaged in play and learning valuable social and emotional skills. She goes above and beyond by challenging students to take what they’ve learned back into the classroom and into their homes.
A true superstar at recess, Coach Jen goes out of her way to make sure students are included and encourage one another. She challenges her Junior Coaches (JC's) to do their very best. Recently, Coach Jen took on the challenge of organizing a family day with her third-grade students. She looked to her JC’s for support, even though they had only been working a few short weeks. The Junior Coaches knocked family day out of the park. Using what they’ve learned from Coach Jen, the Junior Coaches led games for a group of over 300 participants!
Coach Jen’s passion doesn’t stop when the clock hits 5:30 p.m. After hours, Coach Jen puts her personal touch on her program by creating awards and worksheets tailored to what she is teaching during the Junior Coach Program. She is a mentor to fellow Playworkers and is always willing to share her ideas and photographic expertise.
We are proud to recognize Coach Jen’s efforts toward achieving our AIM of safe and healthy play for 3.5 million kids by 2020. Let’s give her a Big Hero 6 BUMP! #EnergizeAZ
