September Teacher of the Month

  1. Updates

Mrs. Gavina is a sixth grade teacher at Whittier Elementary School in Phoenix, Arizona. She is very supportive of Playworks and emphasizes the importance of the lessons that are taught during class game time. She challenges the kids to dig deep and apply our weekly social-emotional focus throughout the school day and beyond.

During morning recess, Mrs. Gavina encourages her students to play foursquare and to play fair. She consistently reminds students to use rock-paper-scissors, positive language, and to give a ton of high-fives. Mrs. Gavina’s students adore her. She is full of energy and is a positive role model for her students.

Mrs. Gavina is consistently going above and beyond to show her students how much she cares. At one point, Mrs. Gavina volunteered to be a soccer coach (a sport she knew next to nothing about), because she wanted the students to have the opportunity to play on a team. By the end of the season, she had learned a lot about the sport and became quite a competitive coach.

When Mrs. Gavina sees a need, she steps up. Mrs. Gavina is inspiring to both the students as well as the adults at Whittier Elementary.

A huge beautiful clap to Mrs. Gavina for helping Playworks Arizona #EnergizeAZ!
